My favorite albums of 2015

I was really blessed to get to listen to new music this year.  Other years I couldn’t afford to buy many records, but this year I acquired some music that I’m sure to love for years to come.  Also, I got out to more shows than ever.  My wife sure does love and know me.

1. Father John Misty- I Love You Honeybear

My new favorite lyricist.  I must have listened to ‘The night Josh Tillman came to our apt.’ hundreds of times in the car, thinking to myself “I know that stupid girl he’s ripping on.  No one’s ever said it better.”

2. Title Fight- Hyperdrive

Bands should grow and evolve, but it’s really nice when they improve and write better songs and not just change because they think they’ve grown up.  Great live show also. ‘Mrahc’, ‘Rose of Sharon’ ‘Trace me onto you’ are all amazing.

3. Sufjan Stevens- Carrie & Lowell

Heartbreaking and beautiful, every song a mini masterpiece.

4. The Chemical Brothers- Born In The Echos

Totally underrated, would love to see them live.  Their best album since Surrender. My daughter SolaGratia (born October 21 2015) flipped the right way in the womb and came out within 45 minutes of me playing ‘Sometimes I Feel So Deserted’. ‘Go’ is my and Rapha’s jam.

5. Metric- Pagans In Vegas

I love it, but my family really loves it.  It’s the one we listen to all together, so yeah it’s amazing.

6. Beach House- Depression Cherry

I feel warm when I listen to this, I love to fall asleep to Depression Cherry.

7. Deafheaven- New Bermuda

Heavy, pretty, dark, loved it.

8. Neon Indian- Vega Intl. Night School

Immediately familiar, one of the funnest things to clean the house to.

9. Tame Impala- Currents

I was surprised at how much I liked this, I only got it because the library had it and all the music publications said it was great.  They were right!

10. Ceremony- The L-Shaped Man

This band keeps changing.  Great album, but please make another hardcore record someday.
